Nostalgic Party Chicken Is Oven-Baked In A Creamy Sauce

Party Chicken, the mouthwatering bacon-wrapped recipe, has been around for decades — and for good reason. It’s hard to go wrong when you start with skinless, boneless chicken breasts, right? Wrap each piece in smoky bacon, and things get even better.

A thin layer of salty, savory dried beef adds a surprising depth of flavor. Then, when you smother the whole dish in a creamy sauce made from sour cream and mushroom soup, magic happens in the oven.

This vintage recipe is old enough to vote. One year, we had two seniors graduating from high school. As seniors, they were allowed to leave campus for lunch. Every week, I would invite them to our house for lunch and to bring their friends.

One day, I made a double batch of Party Chicken for a gaggle of hungry teenagers. That day was a record- eight smiling faces around the table! They devoured the entire pan, and that made me grin from ear to ear.

Everyone Loved the Delicious Bacon-Wrapped Party Chicken

I loved cooking for these kids, and oh my goodness, could they ever put away a ton of food! I savored every precious moment of laughing teenagers crowded around the old wooden table in my humble kitchen. Memories made and cherished. The boys still talk about it.

Party Chicken Is Budget-Friendly And Simple To Make

This chicken dish is meant to be slow-roasted in the dry heat of an oven. That's how the sauce gets so thick and creamy. Here's everything you will need to add to the chicken, along with instructions on how to make it.

other ingredients needed for party chicken

Choose chicken breasts that are about six ounces each. This time, the ones I found on sale were enormous, so I cut them into portions about that size. Begin arranging the dried beef in the bottom of the pan that you have lightly treated with non-stick spray.

Next, top it with the chicken breasts you have wrapped in bacon.

In my opinion, the BEST bacon you can buy is Hormel Black Label Bacon. Always remember to date your bacon when you return a half-package to the fridge! It's so easy to forget when you opened it!

How to Make Party Chicken

Next, combine the mushroom soup, sour cream, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl, then spread it evenly over the bacon-wrapped chicken. Pop it in the oven, uncovered.

If you have been following me for a while, you know I am a huge lover of what parsley does to the appearance of food. I call it "green magic". I think it makes things look even more appetizing.

Once this dish is in the oven, you're free to roam and can pretty much do whatever else you need to do while this bakes happily. When it's baked in a slow oven using a heavy pan, it doesn't dry out. The slow, low, dry heat of the oven makes all the yumminess mingle, marry, and form a great sauce.

This bacon-wrapped chicken entree is so rich and flavorful; it's perfectly served with plain potatoes, noodles, or rice because there's an ah-may-zing sauce that forms.

The last time I served this, the boys loved the sauce so much they asked me to make extra next time so they could spoon some over their mashed potatoes. I have to agree; this sauce is boss!

I often opt for buttery homemade mashed potatoes, which are also easy on the budget and always a hit.

Homemade rolls were always a welcome add-on, especially when I brought out a jar of my strawberry-rhubarb jam!

The kids always devoured it all! But that crew wasn't keen on vegetables. So I learned an inexpensive little trick to get some veggies on their plate. They'll load up on plain old canned French-cut green beans if I drizzle them with a little olive oil and a sprinkle of kosher salt!

I always had a little something sweet for them, and often it was something simple like Cake Mix Cookies or a pan of Lemon Bars. As the kids filed out the door and back to class, they would grab and go.

I'll never forget these special lunches. We won't have a senior again for two years! I guess until then, I will need to savor every memory.

  1. ... so wonderful that you made memories and lunch for those students as they will never forget that day ...
... seems fresh green bean bundles with garlic salt and brown sugar wrapped in 1/2 strip of bacon would go perfectly here ... baked off on separated cookie sheet.... fresh beans can take the long slow oven ...

    1. The pleasure was all mine, I assure you! Enjoyed every minute until COVID spoiled our fun!😒 Your green bean bundles sound amazing!! I will most definitely give that a try! Thank you!!!
