Make It Ahead And Stash It In The Freezer

This old-fashioned root beer float pie tastes like summer in a graham cracker crust, and it's ridiculously easy. With a creamy filling, fizzy root beer flavor, and those bright red cherries on top, it’s the kind of no-bake dessert that makes people grin before they even take a bite.

And the best part? If you can stir and chill, you can make this pie.

This yummy little pie only takes six ingredients and about five minutes to put together (if you remember to defrost the whipped topping). Then, simply stick it in the freezer for 8 hours or overnight until you're ready to serve it!

Here's all you need to make this yummy root beer float pie. The whipped cream topping and maraschino cherries are optional garnishes, but why miss out on the fun? Besides, they make the pie look extra festive when you bring it out for dessert!

How To Make Root Beer Float Pie

  • Unwrap the graham cracker crust.
  • Combine the root beer, milk, and root beer concentrate in a large bowl.
  • Then, sprinkle the dry instant pudding mix on top.
  • Add the root beer concentrate -it is a must and the secret to the full-bodied flavor you want.
  • Whisk the ingredients together until well blended, then let the mixture thicken for a few minutes.
  • Fold in the whipped topping until fluffy and smooth. No mixer needed!
  • Spoon into the crust and freeze for about 8 hours or overnight.
  • Top with whipped cream and cherries if you’re feeling extra fancy.

Look at that yummy filling! I wish this were a scratch-and-sniff post, because it smells amazing!

Why Not Make Two Pies While You're At It

You've got to love premade graham cracker crusts! I enjoy making my own, and they are easy to do, but I'm telling you, picking up a house-brand store-bought nine-inch pie crust for $1.38 (Walmart) is the best money I've spent all week. It has a pan I don't have to wash and a built-in plastic dome to cover it in the freezer. I'm sold.

One twelve-ounce can of A&W root beer is exactly enough to make two pies, so why not pick up an extra container of whipped topping and a second box of instant vanilla pudding? One for now and one for later, or enough for everyone at the party to try it? I posted a root beer float cake last year, and everyone was crazy about it. But when I saw how easy it is to make this yummy root beer float pie, I said, "Sign me up!"

Until I made the root beer float cake, I was unfamiliar with root beer concentrate. You can purchase it at Walmart, Menards (where I found the best price), online, or wherever you find Watkins products. Other brands are available, but Watkins is readily accessible.

How To Serve Your Root Beer Float Pie

I am a garnish nut. I love making food look fun and pretty, so I decorated the top of the pie with dollops of canned whipped cream because it's easy and will be fun for the grandkids! They love to squirt some right in their mouth (and so do some grown-ups, I know! 😉)

The cherries on top are pure delight and give it that soda shop vibe that is so perfect in the summer! You can make whipped cream the old-fashioned way, absolutely!

💡Idea: Next time, I might skip the pie plate altogether and spoon my homemade graham cracker crust into little disposable flare cups, then add the filling, whipped cream, and a cherry on top, and make little grab-and-go cups. I think they'd be fun for the kids when we go to the lake!

I know my strawberry pretzel cups are always a hit with the youngsters!
